Cervical and Breast Cancer Outreach

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer among women in Nigeria followed by cervical cancer. There were 31,955 new cervical cancer cases in West Africa in 2018, and Nigeria accounted for almost half (14,943). There were also 10,403 deaths (28 deaths every day) from cervical cancer in the country in the same year.

Early detection is key in preventing these 2 cancers. Prevention of cervical cancer is achieved through routine screenings with pap smear or Visual inspection with acetic acid + colposcopy. Early detection of breast cancer can be achieved with self-breast examination, breast ultrasound and mammography.
So far, LWHF has screened over 100 women for breast and cervical cancer.
